Rhett x quasar litter born april 16, 2024 - the beanery

Pups were born April 16, 2024 in record time (2 1/2 hrs from water breaking to last pup born).

Introducing the Beanery! Their litter theme names are based on types of beans (or things associated with beans). They don’t yet have their colored collars, but will soon so their followers can tell those black tris apart!

1. “Frank (n Beans)” - Black Tri male - 13 oz (Blue collar) - smallest blaze

2. “Coffee” - Black Tri female - 12 oz (Grey collar) - blaze, white feet, minimal “collar”

3. “Jelly” - Black Tri female - 13 oz (Red collar) - larger blaze, white feet, more “collar” embellishments

4. “Pinto” - Blue Merle female - 12 oz (Purple collar)

5. “Lima” - Blue Merle female - 12 oz (Green collar)

We are really excited about this cross and the ability to showcase the many generations behind Quasar that go back to our foundation bitch, Tahoe. When conducting our extensive search for a stud for Quasar, we considered dogs from many different lines with the goal of producing an athletic and biddable dog while mitigating some health risks we are aware of in our lines. Even though we had had our eyes on Rhett for a while, we didn’t actually meet him until the 2023 ASCA Nationals in Bryan, TX. He had already passed our objective screens regarding structure and clearances, and had produced nicely as several of his offspring were also on our radar. After meeting him ringside, we felt that his temperament was perfect for what we were looking for - he was gentle enough to be handled by a 4 year-old in conformation, but had enough drive to be a working partner.

Pups from this cross could be red-factored or carry one copy of the MDR1 gene mutation as Rhett carries both of those. We did not dock tails and left front dew claws. We are planning to wean the puppies onto a variety of foods including raw and high quality, legume-free kibble.

There are a lot of published protocols regarding how to raise high potential puppies. We are incorporating Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), and following many of the recommendations in Jane Killion (Lindquist)'s Puppy Culture and the former Avidog (now Good Dog) puppy raising programs for raising this litter, similar to what we have done in the past.
